Event - Powering Up Brazil: Conference and Exposition

Powering Up Brazil will take place on October 21 - 23, 2014 in Sao Paulo. This event includes the launch of POWER-GEN Brasil, HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil. This is the the largest electrical power event in Brazil in 2014. The event will include dynamic presentations from eminent industry leaders about the current electrical power sector challenges in Brazil and presentation of the prestigious Projects of the Year Award.

A joint special session on Wednesday October 22 will address electricity supply security in Brazil. Government policies, load growth, reduced hydroelectric generation due to drought and environmental restrictions on large reservoirs, addition of wind energy and other distributed generation sources, and inadequate transmission infrastructure are threatening the country’s electricity supply. Time is quickly running out to fix current problems, plan for adequate future generation capacity, and ensure a secure electricity supply.

Regulators, politicians, electricity generators and grid operators must work together to devise a plan that ensures electric utilities and independent power producers (IPPs) can safely provide adequate and reliable electrical generation capacity and transmission and distribution infrastructure while earning an adequate return on their investment.

Each panelist in this special session brings a unique perspective to this urgent, important, and complex topic. Panelists will provide their views on what the future generation portfolio will look like and how transmission grid operators will adapt to the new look.
