EDF is Putting Technology to use for Social Good

The EDF is on the front lines of efforts in the virtual space to improve our world. The digital world has created a whole series of opportunities for people to get involved in social betterment. Two areas that have benefited from the explosion of new media are the environment and efforts to combat the climate crisis. One of the newest holidays is something called #MobileMonday. This brand-new holiday celebrates the many ways we can use technology for social good. As explained by the EDF's Action Network Coordinator Heather Shelby the timing of MobileMonday couldn't be better.

"As 2014 draws to a close, we have a lot to celebrate. Americans just sent the EPA over 8 million comments calling for climate action! But our work is far from over, and in 2015 the progress we've made will be under attack," Shelby said in an email.

Here are a few things that the EDF will be working on in the year to come:
  • Legislative attacks on the EPA: Incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that his top priority is "to try to do everything I can to stop" the EPA and block the Clean Power Plan you overwhelmingly supported.
  • Attacks in the courts: The U.S. Supreme Court announced it will hear an appeal filed by the National Mining Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and others challenging the D.C. Circuit decision upholding EPA's landmark Mercury and Air Toxics standards, addressing toxic air pollution from power plants.
  • New opportunities to cut pollution: While the EPA works on limiting dangerous smog and methane emissions, we'll be relying on you to lend your voice and prove that Americans want action.
